I am quite the sky gazer. I love to take pictures of rainbows. Somehow I never think they will come out on film and I'm always surprised when they do. I'm fascinated by clouds and always feel like a really good sunset is a gift.
And then there are the stars. One of the main reasons I want to move away from the big city someday is so I can see the stars again. A big swath of Milky Way and Saturn winking at me. When I was a girl I wanted to be an astronaut. I wanted to work for NASA. Well, obviously that didn't happen (yet) but I have had the lucky opportunity to work with both NASA and NOAA for the past three years as my company Global Imagination has sold Magic Planets to them. I think my favorite group is the NOAA Pacific Services Center in Honolulu. They're a real kick!
If I'm not staring at a stunning storm or a starlit sky, I like going to their websites. Check out http://www.noaa.gov/ and http://www.nasa.gov/ - the data, the photos, the exploration... is facinating.
Other fantastically fun sites are:
What is my fascination with the sky? I think we all have it in us. Some people just stop and look a little more often. Perhaps because it makes us feel the overwhelming expanse of where we are and at the same time the connection that we have with it all.
