Sky Gazing

It's been wild weather this week! The storm that blew in Friday had hurricane force winds and knocked out power all over the Bay Area. Today we were treated to thunder and lightning - a rarity here. Anyone who knows me will know that I was thrilled! I absolutely adore thunder and lightning storms (from indoors, of course).
I am quite the sky gazer. I love to take pictures of rainbows. Somehow I never think they will come out on film and I'm always surprised when they do. I'm fascinated by clouds and always feel like a really good sunset is a gift.

And then there are the stars. One of the main reasons I want to move away from the big city someday is so I can see the stars again. A big swath of Milky Way and Saturn winking at me. When I was a girl I wanted to be an astronaut. I wanted to work for NASA. Well, obviously that didn't happen (yet) but I have had the lucky opportunity to work with both NASA and NOAA for the past three years as my company Global Imagination has sold Magic Planets to them. I think my favorite group is the NOAA Pacific Services Center in Honolulu. They're a real kick!

If I'm not staring at a stunning storm or a starlit sky, I like going to their websites. Check out http://www.noaa.gov/ and http://www.nasa.gov/ - the data, the photos, the exploration... is facinating.
Other fantastically fun sites are:
What is my fascination with the sky? I think we all have it in us. Some people just stop and look a little more often. Perhaps because it makes us feel the overwhelming expanse of where we are and at the same time the connection that we have with it all.
