Icing on the Cake

The cupcakes from yesterday got me thinking about baking more. I love baking... especially in the winter because (as previously mentioned) it warms up my house. OK, it's really tasty too.

My kids and I love to make very creative cakes. Every year for their birthday they try to come up with something unique. I got this from my mom, who used to make very creative cakes for our birthdays. I remember a cake that looked like a doll with a big hoop skirt, a pizza cake, and a cake that looked like Haley's Comet.

Here are a few of the fun ones we've done in the last year:
My son's cake from his most recent b-day. It was a spy themed party - hence the magnifying glass.

The cake from my daughter's most recent b-day. She is a monkey lover (and a monkey too!)

We have a tradition of making a cake at Halloween. This one is a bundt cake complete with dry ice fog creeping out of the middle!

This is a "springtime flower box" cake we made for fun last spring. The "dirt" is crushed chocolate cookies. Yum!

Any way you slice it, it's a tasty hobby!

OH MY! How fun all the cupcakes and cakes look. You always have such creative ideas. I think you should win the award for best use of food in general.
