I want to be a Librarian when I grow up.

I come from a family of bibliophiles (i.e. Book Lovers!) In fact, this was our family gingerbread house this year. I love libraries. I am a frequent and passionate patron of my local library. It's kind of like walking into a candy store and being told you can have anything you want. I can hardly believe they let me read any book I want! I usually leave with my arms laden.

I often say that there are three things I really like: kids, books, and organization. So... an obvious occupation for me is an elementary school librarian. It actually took me a while to figure this out. I majored in English in college with not a clue what I was going to do with it, but hey, if they let me read all the time, I was in.

It wasn't until 8 years after I graduated that I figured out what I wanted to be when I grew up. A serendipitous moment gave me the chance to substitute in my children's school library for two weeks. I was in love.

I got to chat with kids about books. I got to organize books on shelves. I got to read books. It really didn't get any better than that.

It's now another 5 years later, but I'm still on the road to the Library. It may take me a little longer, but one of these days, I'm going to be the Librarian.

But I'm not growing up. It's not a requirement in an elementary school library.

Thanks for the inspiration, my fellow bibliophile (I love that word). I love to keep up on what you're writing.
