Love Story

Well, I only got through four books this month (you think I would have read more being down and recovering from wisdom teeth extraction but I guess not.) Three of the four were lovely love stories... perfect for the month of Valentines.

1. The Queen's Soprano - Carol Dines - I've really been into historical fiction lately and this was one that caught my eye. It's based on the real life of a young woman who lived in Rome around 1670 when the Pope decided that it was illegal for women to sing in public. It was a fascinating glimpse into the time period and a great story.

2. Palace of Mirrors - Margaret Peterson Haddix - A clever fairy tale type story that keeps you guessing what the happily ever after will be. (Also loved her version of Cinderella, called Just Ella.)

3. The Smile - Donna Jo Napoli - Again... historical fiction... this time the story is created around the woman in the Da Vinci painting, Mona Lisa. The story is fiction, but the historical events surrounding Florence and the Medici family are all based on fact. I thought it was very interesting!

4. The Gollem's Eye (Book 2 in the Bartimaeus Trilogy) - Jonathan Stroud - This was my one non-romantic book this month! But it was such a fun read. This author writes the most amusing asides from the djinni.

By the way, it's Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss Day! So go read, Fox In Socks, or your favorite Seuss book!

You always have such good ideas of books to read! I can't wait to get some more reading time in! Wahoo!

Also, I'm bummed I didn't know it was Dr. Seuss's birthday before today. I totally would have used it in school.

Hey, I have got a book request. My friend recommended "Keturah And Lord Death" by Martine Leavitt. She said it was another twist on a fairy tail type story. I thought it sounded good, but I never have time to read and so I thought about you. I thought you might like to read it and then you could tell me if it is worth my special reading time. Just a thought. (maybe you have already read it, who knows with you)

It is always fun to see what you are reading. I've also been into historical fiction lately. Right now I'm reading a story based on a polish countess's diary from the late 1700s called "Push not the River". And Soren and I read "Mr. Brown can moo, can you?" in honor of Dr. Seuss.
