My sister Megan posted an amazing poem on her blog. It's an "I Am" poem that she has her students (middle school) write each year. The first two words of each line are given to you and you write whatever comes to you from there. I was inspired by her poem (I am always inspired by her!) and decided to write my own.
I am learning who I am.
I wonder where courage comes from.
I hear a full orchestra playing the soundtrack of my life.
I see brilliant colors in a sunrise and a sunset.
I want to reach my potential.
I am learning who I am.
I pretend that I am singing and dancing on a stage.
I feel lonely without a Best Friend.
I touch the soft fur of my cat.
I worry that I’m not reaching my full potential.
I cry when I see someone get teased.
I am learning who I am.
I understand that I will not be perfect in this life.
I say “I love you” as much as I can.
I dream of having a Best Friend.
I try to leave each person I meet happier than when I found them.
I hope to look back at my life and smile.
I am learning who I am.

I love it! I would give you an A+ if you were my student. Not that a poem can REALLY be graded, especially one that wasn't written for school. I really like your repeated line. It's almost chiastic. COOL!
I am beginning to learn who you are and you are amazing! When I was in elementary school I once got the comment on my report card: "Not working to her potential". I was devastated. I thought I was. How did the teacher know what my potential was and how was I supposed to know what it was? That phrase has haunted me my whole life but has also given me pause to think. Well, am I TRYING to work to my potential? If I am then I feel I'm doing Ok. And that has made all the difference.
My sisters and mother are awesome! I am always so excited to read your writing. It makes me want to think a little bit more before I put words down in permenent pixils.
