Books in a New Year

All these cold, dark days... you think I'd read more! Guess I spent more time at yoga (not a bad thing.) Here's what I did snuggle up with:

1. A Crooked Kind of Perfect - Linda Urban - This was a lot of fun! A girl who dreams of playing the piano... gets an organ... and decides to make the best of it. It's a quirky read that had me laughing.

2. Troy - Adele Geras - The history (and mythology) was very interesting in this story set at the end of the Trojan War. It is a war story, however, and I skipped over the eewww....

3. Food Matters - Mark Bittman - Yes, it's a non-fiction book! I ran across it on the internet one day and picked it up at the library. It is fascinating! He basically points out how the average American diet is not only damaging Americans but it's damaging Planet Earth. His recommendations are thoughtful and do-able.

4. Pemberly - Emma Tennant - This was just too much fun for a Jane Austen fan. This author wrote a Pride and Prejudice "sequel" or what might happen about a year or so after the original book. Written in Austen language, it was a great read.

5. I am Rembrandt's Daughter - Lynn Cullen - Excellent! This book is based on the real life of Rembrandt and members of his family in his later years. The history, the art, and the humanity are an excellent blend.

By the way... my kids and I are currently reading The 39 Clues series (we're halfway through book one). If you haven't heard about this book series/on-line game, check it out HERE.
