You all know me... and I've blogged about it before... there is something in me that just has to dance. It's happifying. It's soul-filling. It's impossible to put into words. Here let me dance it instead... :-)
My kids and I have found our new favorite aerobic activity. We go to YouTube, find a bouncy song, and totally jam to it in my room, making up funny hand motions to go with the words. I guess you'd have to see it to understand. Then again, if you saw it you might run from the room in hysterical laughter. Laughter is aerobic to, by the way.
Anyhow, I've been trying to find other ways to get some dancing back into my life (I'm just happier that way). Two weeks ago, some of my friends from yoga took me to a little place in Los Gatos with a local band and a dance floor. What a kick! That was some pretty good fun.
But more up my alley was the Starlite Ballroom that a friend and I went to last night. We went to the "Beginner's Class" and learned Salsa, Rumba, and West Coast Swing. WAAYY FUN! I haven't done ballroom dance since college (long time ago!) and it was so much fun to do it again. After the classes, we peeked in at the Saturday night "Dance Party" where they play music for all kinds of styles and people just go out and dance. Before I knew it I had been conviced by one of the instructors to get out on the floor and try the Merengue with him! I tried a little Quick Step and a Rumba with another guy before I was through!
My friend and I are now signed up for a free class in a couple of weeks and then we're going to take a 4-night class that teaches the basics of 8 difference dance styles.
My feet are tapping just thinking about it!

I am absolutely no good at dancing. I put all my smart points into other areas so I have zero bodily/kinesthetic ability at all. However, recently my family was at my house playing rock band. They sang Michael Jackson's song Beat It, so my mom and I were in the kitchen trying to figure out the dance he does on the music video. We pulled it up on youtube and practiced until we felt ready to perform for the rest of the family. It was quite ridiculous but also quite fun. I'm sure it was much more hilarious than what occurs at your house due to the aforementioned complete lack of any bodiy/kinesthetic ability.
I am so excited for you! I am on a "get healthy" kick and have been looking for more ways to excercise and I think I am going to try the dance class they have at the gym. I miss dancing so much!
