What is it about sailors.... There is something about sailors that really floats my boat. Seriously, I'll about stop traffic when I'm in San Fran driving on the Embarcadero and I see one of these uniforms.
Maybe it goes back to the fact that I did, "Dames at Sea" and "South Pacific" my freshman year in high school. You can only sing, "The Sailor of My Dreams" so many times without it affecting you.
But it's more than that. It's more than the really great uniform. It's the courage of that person inside the uniform. I'm prouder than I have words for the fact that my grandfathers served on the seas in WWII. I feel that pride, and gratitude, and amazement every time I see a sailor.
This photo is from the US Navy website. There are pages of pictures of sailors. (I know, I looked.) And today especially I just wanted to say, "Thank you."
Because there is just something about a sailor...

I agree, though I appreciate a man in any uniform. I once watched a show where they were aboard a Navy ship and following a few of the sailors' lives. One of the closing scenes was the ship pulling into the harbor, returning home at last. Tears were streaming down my face as I saw them all lined up along the sides of the carrier - in full uniform and standing at attention like that - just like in your picture. It was awe-inspiring and really left me with a feeling of gratitude for who they are and what they do. Thanks for this post - what a perfect Veterans Day tribute!
"I'm crazy about the Navy..."
Ha ha - it must be something in our blood. You know, grandma picked the sailor over the soldier and look where that got all of us.
It must be hereditary. Your grandmother (Oma) says she just loves a man in a uniform and married the "sailor of her dreams"...Lt.JG Paul Reshatoff. I, too, am grateful for the sacrifices that are made for us every day to secure our freedoms by the military and also by those civilians who strive to uphold the law in righteousness.
