My kids and I love watching old movies. There are a whole bunch of movies that my parents showed me when I was a kid (and they were old then!) that I'm now showing my kids.
Tonight we watched "Topper Returns" one of my favorites! My kids were cracking up! If you haven't seen this one, it's worth finding it at the library. This is good clean comedy mixed up with classic whodunnit.
There's nothing better than Billie Burke (i.e. Glinda the Good Witch) saying, "Is it raining out? Oh, you haven't been out. Well, it can't be raining in. Well, if it has it's all cleared up now!"
My kids and I watched another classic (ok, classic to them, I was 11 years old when it came out in 1984). "The Last Starfighter" is as good as I remembered it. My siblings and I watched it over and over. It's such a great hero quest type story. As good ol' Otis says, "When it (your chance) comes you gotta grab on with both hands and hang on tight!"
Here are a couple more "oldies" not to be missed:
1. Some Like It Hot
2. Any Bob Hope/Bing Crosby "Road to ..." movie
3. The Philadelphia Story
4. Rear Window
5. Charade
6. It Happened One Night
7. Desk Set
8. A Shot in the Dark
9. Summer Magic
10. The African Queen

I had Jeff watch The Last Starfighter just before we started dating and he thought it was great. I also have to say that Tron is another good classic (ok a might bit cheesy, but that is what makes it so fun to watch). other then that I think you covered most of the basics.
I'm loving your list - it reminds me of a lot of good movies I need to re-watch. I also enjoy the old Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis movies. My mom gave me their collection on DVD for Christmas and it has been so fun. And there's a lot of cute Doris Day movies i enjoy. So fun that your kids like them.
